- 2014 Nobel Prize for Physics goes to Japanese Isamu Akasaki and Hiroshi Amanoalongwith Shuji Nakamura (US) for their invention of efficient blue light-emitting diodes (LED) which has enabled bright and energy-saving white light sources.Awards
- Dr Apathukatha Sivathanu Pillai wins the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Academics and Management for the year 2014.
- He is currently the Chief Controller of Research and Development in DRDO and Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of BrahMos Aerospace.
- He has been the key in the development of various missiles including BrahMos.
- The award given by Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, carries five lakh rupees cash prize, a citation and a plaque.
