  • Central Zone clinches Duleep Trophy 2014-15 pipping South Zone by just 9 runs in a titillating encounter.  
    • Its the narrowest win - in terms of runs - in the history of this championship.
    • 5 zonal teams; North, South, Central, East and West; take on one another in a series of 5-day matches.
    • West and North Zones are the most successful team with 18 titles each.

  • Versatile actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar breathes his last at 64.  
    • He acted in Marathi and Hindi films prominently during 1980s and 90s.
    • He won the Filmfare Award for Best Villain in 1991 for "Sadak" - incidentally it was the first Filmfare award in this category.
    • He had also bagged Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his debut Hindi film Ardh Satya in 1984.

  • Centre plans to set up a 'Centre of Zoo Sciences' at New Delhi.  
    • The institution would infuse scientific and technical culture in the present system and make the zoos more visitor friendly. 
    • It will also provide expert help to the States and UTs in ex-situ conservation breeding of endangered species, in addition to impart training to in-service zoo personnel and stakeholders in India and other South Asian countries.

  • The India Economic Summit kicks off in New Delhi with the theme 'Redefining public-private cooperation for a new beginning'.  
    • The 3-day summit (November 4-6) is being jointly hosted by the World Economic Forum and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
    • About 700 policymakers, industrialists, representatives from civil society and academia from 45 countries are participating in the event.

  • India finishes the 2014 Asian Para Games at 15th place with a haul of 3 Gold, 14 Silver & 16 Bronze.  
    • China, South Korea and Japan took the first three position in the overall medal tally respectively.
    • The Games are held after the Asian Games at the same venue.
    • This was the 2nd edition of the Games held at Incheon, South Korea.
    • The first Games was held in 2010 in Guangzhou.

    • What is alarming is the dismal rate of conviction which stands at pathetic 10 percent in such cases.
