  • New IPCC report calls for swift action.
    • The Synthesis Report points to the human influence on climate and also points out that there were means to limit climate change and build a sustainable future.
    • Chairperson of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) R.K. Pachauri said that the scientific community had done its job and rest is on politicians and decision-makers.
    • The Report tells that the need is to tackle climate change with a combination of adaptation and mitigation.

    • She said that India was in the process of reviewing the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) and will not do anything that will adversely impact the island nations ties with India.

  • UN climate change panel emphasizes on phasing out fossil fuel.
    • It said that fossil fuels would have to be phased out by the end of this century , if the rise in global temperatures has to be kept under 2 degrees Celsius.

  • Scorpene the Indigenously built submarine to carry critical DRDO system.
    • The system, called air-independent propulsion (AIP), enhances the underwater endurance of conventional (diesel-electric) submarines.
    • Without it, they are forced to surface to periscope depth to recharge their batteries periodically , a position where they are most susceptible to detection.

    • It was formed for probing the betting and spot fixing scandals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
