  • India is going to ink a treaty with Nigeria on transfer of prisoners.

  • Banks will now send mandatory SMS alerts for cheque transactions to pre-empt fraud.    
    • Both the payer and drawer will receive the SMS sent by the bank.
    • Customers will also get confirmation phone calls in case of suspicious or high-value cheques.
    • Until now, SMS alerts were mandatory only for card transactions.
    • The latest RBI decree is a step to boost security in the business of cheque clearance.

  • Another Naval disaster: A 31-year old Torpedo Recovery Vessel of Indian Navy (A 72) has sunk off the coast of Visakhapatnam.  
    • TRV is an auxiliary vessel which is used to recover practice torpedoes fired by fleet ships and submarines.
    • Out of 28 personnel aboard, one sailor has died while 4 are reported missing.
