  • 2014 Nobel Prize in chemistry goes to the American duo of Eric Betzig andWilliam Moerner alongwith Stefan Hell from Germany.  
    • They bag the coveted award for the development of super-resolved fluorescence microscopy which helps us see finer details compared to the earlier ones.

  • 'World Post Day 2014' is celebrated across the globe today on October 9.  
    • The day marks the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in Bern (Switzerland). 
    • The Posts in many countries use the event to introduce or promote new postal products and services.
    • India has declared the whole week starting today as the National Postal Week till October 15.

    • The plant, once Nokia's biggest, is embroiled in a long standing tax-dispute with the central government.
    • All the operations will be stopped from the first of November leaving future of some 6,600 full-time workers uncertain.
    • The factory, excluded from the Microsoft-Nokia deal, has been acting as a contract manufacturer for Microsoft.
